A CEASE II instrument was successfully launched onboard the US Air Force DSP operational spacecraft into a geosynchronous (GEO) orbit! The initial on-orbit checkout has shown excellent performance, measuring solar proton events, outer zone electron populations, and injections of lower energy particles. The instrument launched on DSP is the first to incorporate an electrostatic analyzer for improved measurements of the particles which cause surface charging in GEO orbit. The CEASE II launch on DSP is the third successful launch and turn-on of a CEASE.
CEASE is a small, low power instrument that provides spacecraft operators with fully processed, real time, in situ measurements and autonomously generated warnings of the space radiation environment threats.
